After releasing The Tells of Parallels, I felt we were onto something, and that it was time to leave Company of Thieves to start writing the first full-length Mutts album. Bob was still playing with Big Science and Empires, and Chris Faller was touring with Company of Thieves. So we had to approach recording a little differently.
The Tells of Parallels EP
As with the first two releases, we were all super busy with our “main” projects and we just wanted to hit the studio to kick out a few jams real quick for the fun of it. Chris and I were touring heavily in Company of Thieves and preparing to track their 2nd record. Bob was playing with Big Science and Empires and doing session work for some Chicago artists.
We Float EP
I met drummer Cory Healey while I was living on the couch at the IV Lab in 2008. He drummed on my solo gigs and I had always wanted to do a recording with him. He’s a jazz player with crazy chops and polyrhythms, and he hits hard like a rock drummer. Along with Bob, who had recently parted ways with Company of Thieves, we started jamming on a few of my new ideas.
Pretty Pictures EP
Bob and I met in 2009, when we were on tour playing in Company of Thieves. After a show in Florida, we were drinking at a Nautically-themed bar, listening to old records on the jukebox, and he said he’d love to hear me do a record with less production than my solo album had. And I was wanting to make something a like more gnarly as well.
